Shelly, 2012

two weeks after her mother had quit smoking she came home to find her mother daubing out a lit cigarette. There you are, she didn’t try to hide it, i brought a packet of tobacco. she lay in bed with her mum holding hands and lamenting their glistening conditions. the next morning shelly left a note saying -there you are mum i threw it out the window, you just made a very expensive mistake-. but she didn’t, she hid it and smoked it.

in her diary, fondly remembered time.

dancing to steal my sunshine
with my pink haired treasure troll
three-way phone conversations with friends
with towels in their hair
and mirror nails

the air is still after a tropical rainstorm
i make a painting of a bottle
of sparkling rose wine
and a crumpled bby blue straw
in an empty peach-coloured glass

we ride the streets at night
in denim and skin-tight silk
find a party
i call u from inside the club
i wonder who i’ll make out with?
